Protecting Our Environment

Argon is committed to developing and maintaining sustainable building practices on our projects.

On all of our projects, Argon works to reduce the environmental impact of the construction process. As part of the pre-construction planning for each project, we develop site-specific environmental management plans. These plans address the management of a range of environmental factors, including noise and vibration, silt and sediment, stormwater runoff and emissions. Argon is currently working to assess and reduce our carbon emissions on our projects and at an organizational level. We are experienced in meeting Greenstar requirements for minimising the carbon footprint of new buildings through design and construction.

Another key part of reducing the environmental impact of construction is minimising waste. By working within the REBRI (Reducing Building Material Waste) framework with specialist waste management subcontractors, we have significantly reduced waste to landfill on our recent projects.  As well as sending waste products to appropriate recycling facilities, we work with our site teams and demolition subcontractors to ensure anything reusable is removed carefully so it can be repurposed.

We have also refined our methodologies and procurement strategies to minimise the amount of material lost to damage, and to reduce offcuts by optimising the size of the products being ordered.

Supporting Our Communities

Argon works to support local economies and communities on all our regional projects around New Zealand. Wherever possible, we choose to use local subcontractors, suppliers and labour.

We also strive to further skills and training in the regions by taking on local apprentices, carpenters and labourers, and providing access to both formal industry training and practical on-the-job learning.

Argon’s commitment to hiring local staff on our regional projects has meant we are able to offer apprenticeships and ongoing employment to many of those workers.

Argon has a strong culture of training and apprenticeships, and we are committed to adding to the industry skill base. We have many staff across the business who have trained with us, either through their apprenticeships or while they completed tertiary qualifications.

Most of our senior leadership team has come through Argon industry training programmes over the past four decades. Our head office and site management teams also include a large number of people who have trained with us from school or very early in their careers, and Argon has produced some key industry figures through our training and mentoring programmes.
