Working at Argon

Argon is passionate about our people and we place a huge importance on company culture. Our strength lies in the quality and experience of our team. Most of Argon’s senior management team has worked together for a long time – from 15 years to 40 years. They’ve delivered many successful projects over that time, as a cohesive unit of people who genuinely enjoy working together. This results in high quality projects delivered on time and on budget, and it makes the building process enjoyable for our clients and consultants.

Principal

After more than five decades in the NZ construction industry, Tom now works as a consultant and advisor for Argon’s management team on complex projects. He first joined Argon in 1979, taking over as Managing Director in 1986. He stepped down as Managing Director in 2023. Prior to Argon, Tom completed a building apprenticeship with WM Angus in Napier in 1972, before working as a project manager for several large contracts in NZ and overseas. After returning to NZ, he joined Chamberlain & Associates and completed his quantity surveyor training.

Matt Gabriel

Matt Gabriel

General Manager

Matt is a civil engineer with significant experience across all areas of construction management. He joined Argon in 2002 on a part-time basis while studying engineering at the University of Auckland. After graduating with first class honours, he took on a full-time engineering role at Argon. Matt has worked on the site engineering and design management of many of Argon’s major projects. He was appointed General Manager in 2017. Matt continues to manage the overall planning, engineering, and construction of Argon’s major projects.

Contracts Manager

Todd has an excellent record of completing challenging projects on time, on budget and to a high level of client satisfaction. He joined Argon in 1994 as an apprentice, progressing quickly through a range of site & project management roles. He now oversees Argon’s site-based teams, and leads some of our most complex projects.

Grant is a highly experienced and skilled quantity surveyor with more 30 years’ experience. He joined Argon in 1995 after seven years at a quantity surveying consultancy, and worked across many of Argon’s major projects.

Ben is well-respected as a versatile, experienced, and highly skilled senior project manager. He joined Argon in 2001, working part-time while he completed his Bachelor of Construction Management. He took on a full-time position in 2002, and has worked across variety of challenging commercial projects.

Michael Rountree

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Michael is an experienced quantity surveyor who has worked across a wide range of Argon projects over the past decade. He joined Argon in 2011 while completing his Bachelor of Construction at Unitec, and has gone on to become a valued senior member of the quantity surveying team.

Rich Ferretti

Rich Ferretti

Senior Quantity Surveyor & Healthcare Liaison

Rich specialises in healthcare construction, and has completed dozens of hospital and medical facility projects over the past decade. He joined Argon in 2012 after 10 years working as a project manager and consultant in the UK. Rich is currently serving as Treasurer of the NZ Healthcare Design Council.

Design Coordination Manager

Sean’s attention to detail, experience and design skill have added significant value to many of Argon’s more complex projects. Sean joined Argon early in 2012, shortly after completing his Master of Architecture degree at the University of Auckland. He’s been involved in the design coordination of a wide range of Argon’s major projects, and now manages Argon’s Architectural & Engineering team.

Stephanie Cashen

Accountant

Stephanie has been with Argon for more than 30 years, overseeing all the financial and office administration. This includes financial reporting, cash management and general administration.

Katie Mune

Office Manager

Katie started with Argon in 2019 as Accounts Manager, before moving into her current role of Office Manager. She looks after the day-to-day running of the business, including accounts payable, payroll and general enquiries.

Tony & Carlos

Tony & Carlos

Reception & Security

Tony joined Argon’s head office in 2014 after a brief attempt at being a guide dog. As Chief Receptionist, his main duties include enthusiastically greeting visitors and boosting office morale. He’s a regular at Head Office meetings, but his note-taking skills are still a bit… ruff. Carlos came on board in 2023, also having retired from a less-than-stellar guide dog career. Thanks to his impressive size, Carlos is the unofficial head of security at Argon Head Office. While he can occasionally intimidate a courier driver, he’s more likely to be found chasing after treats and toys than taking his security duties seriously.
